Galata Bistro, a Turkish restaurant that called 827 Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park home for over a decade, closed its doors following Father’s Day service on June 16.
A sign hung on the facade of the building reads: “We lost our lease. Going out of business. Thank you for 15 years.”
A note taped to the door thanked patrons for their loyalty and said that the restaurant’s closure was “not by choice.”
“To our loyal customers, it is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to close Galata Bistro,” the note said. “After 15 wonderful years, we have come to the end of our lease, and landlord is not willing to renew it. We want you to know that we deeply appreciate your support and patronage, and want to emphasize that this decision was not taken by us.”
The restaurant opened at this location in January 2013 and was named after Galata Tower, a medieval landmark in Istanbul.
The restaurant owners could not be reached for comment, and it is unknown if the restaurant will reopen in another location.
