Police have re-arrested Guy Delmar Hayman, the former coach of the Woodside High School girls’ varsity basketball team who was out of jail on bail while awaiting trial on child molestation charges.

Mountain View police arrested Mr. Hayman at about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, after a Mountain View resident called about a man masturbating in public on the grounds of an apartment complex in the 500 block of Cypress Point Drive, said Sgt. Dale Messimer of the Mountain View Police Department.

Answering the call, police found Mr. Hayman standing on a nearby sidewalk, dressed in clothing fitting the suspect’s description, and in a state of arousal, police said. The resident who had called the police identified Mr. Hayman.

Gregory Devitt, a deputy district attorney for San Mateo County, told the Almanac that he requested and obtained an increase in Mr. Hayman’s bail from $300,000 to $500,000 on Thursday, June 8, and asked that Mr. Hayman be returned to jail.

In setting a $500,000 bail, Judge James Ellis “found reason to believe that Mr. Hayman posed a risk that qualified him for an increase in bail,” Mr. Devitt said.

As of Friday, June 9, the former coach was in custody in the San Mateo County jail, said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lt. Lisa Williams.

Mr. Hayman pleaded not guilty on January 13 to three felony counts of lewd acts with a girl, who was 14 when the molestation allegedly first occurred, and 41 misdemeanor counts of annoyance or molestation of the same girl, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

Mr. Hayman is scheduled to be tried on September 11 on all 44 counts against him since he waived his right to a speedy trial, said Mr. Wagstaffe. A pre-trial conference is set for 1 p.m. on July 18.

The charges against Mr. Hayman do not involve any girls on Woodside’s varsity team, said Mr. Wagstaffe. Mr. Hayman coached at Woodside for seven or eight years, said Principal Linda Common.
