Ted Bache’s rain log

Ted Bache of Stanford Weekend Acres near Menlo Park e-mailed this message on Sept. 24: Sunday morning, after logging the 0.2-inch of rain we had in the previous 24 hours in my rain log that I have been keeping for 12 years now, I decided to flip back and see how many other Septembers there were when we got wet. There were, in fact, 10 occasions when I noted something like “trace,” “decks wet” or an actual number — such as 0.2 for Sept. 9, 1999; and 0.1 for Sept. 26, 2001; and 0.1-plus for Sept. 21, 2005.
