Allegro Framing and Art, which opened last year in Ladera Country Shopper, is now stocking art supplies for professional artists, as well as for children.

The shop is also offering pottery painting. Birthday parties, featuring pottery painting in Allegro’s studio, are popular with children, ages 4 to teen, says Allegro owner Irina Gorelik.

The 4-year-olds “love the process,” while teenagers turn out some beautiful and creative pieces, she says.

The pieces, ranging from dinosaurs to fairies, as well as boxes, plates, and mugs, are left to be fired and picked up later.

Professional art supplies at Allegro include canvases, paints, brushes, and easels. Children’s art supplies include art kits; colored, decorative and origami paper; pens and many other child-related items.

During November and December, Allegro Framing and Art is also exhibiting oil paintings by Ed Lucey and Maralyn Miller of Los Gatos, both of whom are noted for their California landscapes, says Ms. Gorelik.

Allegro Framing and Art is located at 3130 Alpine Road in Portola Valley.

Kitchens by Design celebrates in Menlo

They were dancing in Crane Street in Menlo Park — well, on the sidewalk anyway, reports Lanny Danenberg about the Nov. 1 party for her business, Kitchens by Design, which she owns with her husband Dan.

The party celebrated the kitchen and bath design firm’s four years in Menlo Park, at 1155 Crane St. at Oak Grove Avenue, where it moved in 2003 from the Design Center in San Francisco, said Ms. Danenberg.

About 60 people — clients, local merchants, and business associates of the firm — attended, and bopped to the sounds of golden oldies spun by disc jockey Donnie Fitzsimmons. Hors d’oeuvres and wine were served.

Celebrants crowded the sidewalk and the design studio, where photos of Dan Danenberg’s designs were displayed.

“Not only Kitchens by Design benefited from the festive atmosphere at the two-hour fete,” said Ms. Danenberg. “Local merchants who provided some of the door prizes also had an opportunity to meet and greet each other, and others in the community who had gathered to celebrate.”
