Instead of riding her bike to work, picking up the kids at school, or shopping for groceries, Gudrun Enger of Menlo Park will spend a day later this month being pampered.

The mother of two is the winner of the Silicon Valley Moms blog makeover contest. This is the second contest organized by SVMoms.com co-founders Beth Blecherman of Menlo Park and Tekla Nee and Jill Asher of Palo Alto.

Ms. Enger will start the day with a facial and massage at Thermae Day Spa and Salon, followed by a haircut, manicure and makeup at 1258 Hair Studio. That evening, wearing a stylish outfit selected at Calla and shoes from Calla Kicks, Ms. Enger and her husband will have a romantic dinner for two. All goods and services are from Menlo Park businesses.

She will also receive a three-month membership in Fitness 101 with two personal training sessions.

Ms. Enger, who works part-time as a marketing consultant, says she has never won anything before. Her entry was picked at random; however, she was required to answer six questions. Examples: “I need to win this contest because. …” and “The last time I pampered myself was when. …”

She says of herself: “I’m just a mom. I have a couple of kids. I wear a lot of brown.” She also likes to cook and entertain. “I like to try new recipes on my guests,” she says. She also “loves to can,” almost a lost art in this era of “grab and go” take-out.

Ms. Enger was one of the initial writers on the Silicon Valley Moms blog. The Internet site, which was launched in April 2006, is designed for professional women who are mothers of small children.
