Filoli seeks 2026 board and committee members

Filoli’s governance team is opening up its search for board and committee members to join in 2026. These teams play a vital role in shaping the future of the historic estate, providing strategic oversight, advising in their domain expertise and leveraging their network to expand Filoli’s impact.

“Filoli is more than a word; it’s an experience that brings people together through beauty, history, and nature,” said David Wessel, current board chair.

The historic estate is seeking leaders who can help guide the organization through opportunities and challenges, including increasing equitable access to outdoor spaces, addressing impacts of climate change and increasing equity centered community engagement.

“Our new Board Members embody this spirit, bringing fresh perspectives and valuable expertise to help us shape Filoli’s future. Their leadership will ensure that Filoli continues to grow and evolve, meeting the needs of our diverse and ever-changing community,” Wessel said.

Local students win first place in county STEM fair

Middle school students from Menlo Park, Atherton, Woodside and Portola Valley won first place awards in the San Mateo County 2025 STEM Fair.

From Woodside Elementary School, sixth grader Arielle Rosner-Elson placed first for her project, “A Greener Gloss,” in the biological systems category. Josephine Hengehold, also a sixth grader from Woodside, won for her materials science project titled, “The pH Levels of Lotions.” Sixth grader Simeon Ouellette-Massiou also placed first for his project, “Best Secondary Statistic for Winning a World Series,” in the math and software category.

Nativity Catholic School sixth grader Cristiano Perez won first place for his chemistry project, “Which Fruit or Vegetable Produces the Most Electricity?”

Seventh grader Arianna Kim from Sacred Heart Schools in Atherton placed first for her chemistry project, “Spill the Tea on Microplastics: Analyzing Microplastics in Tea Bags.”

From Portola Valley, Corte Madera eighth grader Makena Bailey won for her “Cleaning Solar Arrays,” project in the earth, space and environmental sciences category. Eight grader Vikram Fox also won first place for his physics project titled, “Using Machine Learning to Solve Complex Physics Problems: A Study of Drag Force and Terminal Velocity.”

Synapse School in Menlo Park also had three students place first in the STEM Fair. Seventh grader Vir Rao won for his environmental sciences project, “Climate Showdown: Greenhouse Gasses or Sea Ice Melt, who is the Biggest Offender?” Eighth graders Joshua Burke and Anna Beasley placed first in the behavioral sciences category for their project titled, “Mindsets in Math.”

Springline hosts ‘Hop into Spring’

The Plaza at Springline in Menlo Park is hosting a free family family event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate the spring season. Community members can enjoy live music, a petting zoo, face painting and carnival games. Local vendors including Barebottle Brewery, il Mercato di Che Fico and Little Sky Bakery. The event will also feature marketplace vendors selling bouquets, dog treats and accessories, permanent jewelry, candles and honey.
