Water rates increase
Many classes of Menlo Park municipal water rates were set to increase starting on July 1 as part of the changes for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Almost all types of charges are increasing by approximately 4.76% including the fixed charge for used and unused meters, consumption charges and capital facility surcharges. The drought surcharge, which is added when users do not reduce water use by the council set percentage during a drought, is lightly decreasing for several reduction targets while slightly increasing for others.
The only Menlo Park charge that is decreasing across the board is the one time fee for new water connections, which is decreasing by 0.9%. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission pass through rate is decreasing to $0.72 from $1 per 100 cubic feet of water.
This is the final rate change as part of Menlo Park’s five year rate study which was approved in 2021. Later this year, Menlo Park will set the rates for the next five years.
The rate changes only effect residents receiving water from Menlo Park Municipal Water instead of Cal Water, which serves most Menlo Park residents.
Housing Commission
While Menlo Park was able to fill 15 vacancies on its committees and commissions, it still has one vacancy on its housing commission. The housing commission advises the Menlo Park city council on housing matters like supply and issues that arise. The six member commission has one vacancy for a term that ends on April 30, 2027.
Any Menlo Park resident over the age of 18 and willing to attend monthly meetings can apply on the city’s website.
