Vehicle theft prevention tips

The Menlo Park Police Department encourages the community to be alert and to use good judgement to ensure their vehicles are protected from theft, a crime that continues to rise across the nation. As July marks National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month, law enforcement officials have tips on how to safeguard personal vehicles.

Police recommend that drivers park their cars in well-lit and well-traveled areas and to hide all valuables. They encourage locking doors and to set car alarms after parking, even while parked in your own driveway. Never leave keys in the vehicle, even while filling up at the gas station and never leave a running vehicle unattended, according to local law enforcement.

If you are a victim of vehicle theft, contact the Menlo Park Police Department immediately to file a stolen vehicle report. A report can also be filed online at tinyurl.com/menloparkonline.
