Firefighters travel to Washington State
Firefighters and first responders from California Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 3, which is led by the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, traveled to Washington State to assist in the response to widespread flooding which has forced tens of thousands to evacuate.
Task force 3 is one 28 teams across 19 states that are part of the FEMA National Urban Search and Rescue Response System. Task forces can be deployed to a disaster area or pre-positioned to provide lifesaving assistance in response to disasters.
Task force 3 is composed of civilians and first responders from 17 agencies and civilians from companies like Genentech and SRI International.
The governor’s office said 150 emergency response members from across the state have been deployed to Washington.
Menlo Park parking enforcement deferred
The Menlo Park Police Department announced it will not enforce the city’s residential overnight parking ban from Dec. 22 to Jan. 4.
Typically, Menlo Park does not allow vehicles to park on residential streets overnight. However, as a courtesy, the department will not enforce that until after the holidays. Enforcement will resume at 2 a.m. on Jan. 5.
Overnight parking permits can be purchased in person or online.
