The graduation ceremony for La Entrada Middle School’s Class of 2006 kicked off a week of such local pageantry, with students scheduled to enter the school’s black-top assembly area at 6 p.m. Monday, June 12, to the sounds of “The Scientist” by the band Coldplay.

Mary Ann Somerville, the departing superintendent of the Las Lomitas Elementary School District, was on the program to extend an official welcome.
Guests were to be treated to a series of recorded reflections by the graduates-to-be, and Principal Dee Brummett was to present this year’s eighth-grade awards.
Laura Moreno and Jarrod Nixon are the recipients of the annual inspiration awards, after being chosen by a committee of school representatives and members of the Larry McCarty Foundation for Kids.
The student gift to the school this year is a programmable electronic hallway sign to advertise school events.
Speeches were to be given by graduates Talia Greenwald, Brigid McCurdy, Chris Lamkin, Shannon Berry and Megan Conn. The speakers’ essays were chosen from among all the essays written by the graduating class.
Ms. Brummett and school district board President David Bailard were to hand out diplomas.
Student council president and master of ceremonies Turner Baty was set to end the program with the student response and a farewell speech. The program was to conclude with graduates marching out to the tune “Don’t You Forget About Me” by the band Simple Minds.
