Woodside Elementary School’s amphitheater will be the setting for the eighth-grade graduation that begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 16.

The Woodside School Band, directed by Amanda Negrete, will play Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstances” as the eighth-graders enter the amphitheater.

Students Alfredo Huerta and Emanuel Mortimer Behrendt will lead their classmates, families and friends in the salute to the flag and the singing of the national anthem.

Daniel Vinson, superintendent/principal, will give the welcome.

The Class of 2006 has chosen to sing “Here’s to the Night,” popularized by Eve 6 band 44, as its class song.

Student speeches will begin with Laura Elizabeth Palmer talking about “Evolution of a Woodside Elementarian”; Michael Tyler York, “The Person I Have Become”; and Mackenzie Kristine Ruehl, “The Price of Safety.” Saaman Swaman Entezarmahdi’s title is “It’s Been Done.” Anna May Rivers will talk about “Two Worlds,” and Ariadne Mariika Yulo will give “A Call for Global Citizenship.”

Earlier at the eighth-grade luncheon, hosted by the seventh-grade parents, eighth-graders giving speeches were: Lisa Marie Rosati (“Opening the Door”), Emanuel Mortimer Behrendt (“Gifts We Will Take With Us”), Natalie Williford (“More Importantly”), Sean Christopher Lau Sprinkel (“Moving On”), Emily Tess Mosman Portlock (“Life Lessons”), Peter Kalevi Gunn (“The Drive for Success”), and Lindsey Renee Waters (“We Were There”).

Tyler MacNiven, Woodside Elementary School and Woodside High School alumnus, returns to give the commencement address.

Awards in several areas — academic, athletic, community service and music — and the Trustees’ Award will be presented.

Bob Sherman, assistant principal, will present the Class of 2006 to Mr. Vinson who will award the diplomas.

A reception for the graduates, their families and guests will begin immediately after the ceremony.
