Spending is low as the race for Menlo Park City Council heads into its last week before the Nov. 5 election. Only one of the two races is contested, and no candidate spent over $2,000 this filing period, which covers the month between Sept. 22 and Oct. 19.
Candidates, or candidate committees, that raise more than $2,000 are required to file a statement reporting donations received and money spent between during the period covered.
Jeff Schmidt, the candidate for the uncontested District 3 seat, is the only candidate that received over $2,000 in contributions this period. Jennifer Wise, one of the candidates for the District 5 race, is the only candidate that reported spending any amount during this period. The other candidate for the District 5 race, Greg Conlon, did not file a campaign fundraising statement, which suggests that his campaign has raised less than the $2,000 threshold.
Jennifer Wise
During the most recent filing period, Wise raised $460 on top of the $4,704 that she raised during the previous filing period. She received a $100 contribution from fellow candidate Schmidt. She also received $100 contributions from Menlo Park residents Carol Orton, Sally Cole and from the candidate committee for James Coleman for South San Francisco City Council. She received a $60 contribution from Bill Mebane of Palo Alto.
Wise spent $1,601 during the last campaign finance period, with $1,452 spent on printing for mailers, $36 spent on website maintenance and $18.17 taken by ActBlue as its cut of her contributions.
Jeff Schmidt
Schmidt did not spend any money during the most recent reporting period, however he did pay himself back for the $3,000 he had loaned to his own campaign at the start of his candidacy.
Schmidt also received a $1,500 donation from the Northern California Carpenters Regional POWER PAC Small Contributor Committee, and a $617 donation from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Number 617. In total, Schmidt has raised $5,967 over the course of his candidacy.
