The Menlo Park Fire Protection District responded to a fire at a home at 123 Linden Ave. in Atherton Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 4.

The incident was reported at 1:42 p.m.and the last fire unit cleared the area at 2:25 p.m., according to MPFPD Deputy Fire Chief Dan Coy. There were no injuries and no significant damage to the home.

The fire was caused by an electrical problem to a vault outside of the house, which was emitting a significant amount of smoke, Coyle said. Pacific Gas & Electric Company was also on scene to secure the area.

“It was pretty straightforward,” Coyle said. “It was easy access. There was a fire hydrant right in front of the house that was very easy to get to, and the Atherton police were there before us to make sure that everybody was out of the house before we even got there.”

MPFDP sent five fire engines, one ladder truck and two battalion chiefs to the incident, a standard response for a structure fire in San Mateo County, plus two battalion chiefs that were staffed nearby due to the current atmospheric storm.
