A fire broke out at a North Fair Oaks hat and boot boutique on Middlefield Road Saturday morning. The business sustained damage, but there were no reported injuries.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at 8:25 a.m. reporting a fire at 3262 Middlefield Road, the location of Golden State Cowboy. Fire crews arrived on scene approximately five minutes later and quickly put out the flames, Menlo Park Battalion Fire Chief Ken Babcock said.

Babcock confirmed that no one was inside the business when the fire started and said that the cause is still under investigation.

The emergency call came from the owner of the business next door, Claudia Gomez, who said that when she arrived at her store, Paola’s Flowers, at 8:06 a.m., she noticed smoke coming from her neighbor’s front door. She called the owner of Golden State Cowboy and then 911. Gomez’s business was not affected by the fire, she told this publication.

The owner of Golden State Cowboy was a couple of hours away from the area at the time of the fire, Gomez said, but employees who lived nearby came to the store. The glass on the front door of the boutique was shattered, and at 10:30 a.m., the smell of burnt materials remained apparent.
