Children and adults alike gathered at the Belle Haven Library on the afternoon of Jan. 3 to get crafty during workshop hosted by the city of Menlo Park. They molded their own fantastical creatures based on alebrijes, brightly-colored Mexican folk art sculptures often made from wood or papier-mâché, out of modeling clay.
Rachel-Anne Palacios of Devika’s Palacio Multicultural Folk Art showed participants how to make their own versions of an alebrije.
People rolled clay into volcanos, frogs, cats and more using instructions handed out to them in the final days of winter break from school.
