Menlo Park seeking applicants for commissions

The city of Menlo Park is seeking interested residents to apply for vacancies on a number of commissions. Applicants must live in Menlo Park, be 18 years or older and be committed to attend monthly evening meetings.

Requirements and length of term very by commission. Interested applicant should submit an application by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.

There are currently five vacancies on the Finance and Audit Commission, four vacancies on the Housing Commission, two vacancies on the Complete Streets Commission, two vacancies on the Parks and Recreation Commission, one vacancy on the Planning Commission, one vacancy on the Environmental Quality Commission and one vacancy on the Library Commission.

RethinkWaste hosting ‘Trash to Art’ contest

To celebrate Earth Month, RethinkWaste is hosting its annual “Trash to Art” contest, which is open to students in grades three to five who live within its service area.

This year’s contest is open to both individual students and classes. A field trip to a local museum or art studio will be awarded to the class category winner and a class pizza party to the second class category winner. Individual winners will choose from a selection of fun local activities or sustainable arts and crafts kits. Winning art pieces will be announced the week of April 7, and all winners will be recognized publicly at the RethinkWaste office on Thursday, April 24.

Submissions are due by Friday, March 28, at 4 p.m. to the RethinkWaste Office located at 1245 San Carlos Ave., Suite E, San Carlos, CA 94070.

Celebrate 100 years of the Woodside Fire Protection District

The Woodside Fire Protection District is hosting a 100-year commemoration and grand reopening of Station 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 22.

Community members are welcome to join for a historical society presentation, station tours, light refreshments and activities for kids.
