Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area of Sand Hill Road between Santa Cruz Avenue and Sharon Park due to a water main break. California Water Service officials estimate the repairs will take about eight hours.
Currently, residents and businesses between the 2100 and 2128 block of Sand Hill Road are affected by the water main break. All impacted customers have been notified.
It is believed that the incident was caused by ground movement which led to a flex break, one of the most common types main breaks, said Cal Water Operations Manager William Torsch.
As of 4 p.m., the turn lane from Santa Cruz Avenue onto Sand Hill Road and the right lane going west on Sand Hill Road remained closed, he added.
Cal Water was notified about the main break around 12 p.m. and dispatched its repair crew shortly after. Menlo Park police and utilities crews were on the scene as of 1:23 p.m., according to a release from the city of Menlo Park.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information comes available.
