Scott Saywell will not be seeking reelection to the Menlo Park City School District Board of Education this fall. Having served two terms, with the current one set to expire in December, Saywell said he believes the board is ready for someone new.
Saywell was first elected to the school board in 2018 and was reelected in 2022. He previously ran for a seat in 2016 but lost to David Ackerman and Caroline Lucas.
As a Menlo Park native, Saywell grew up in the Sharon Heights neighborhood and attended Menlo School in Atherton. At the time of his first campaign, his two children were attending Laurel School, but now are attending high school outside of the district.
“I think it is a good time for me to roll off and make room for someone to come on with fresh ideas and, ideally, with kids in the district,” said Saywell in an email to The Almanac.
The district’s Board of Education will have three seats up for election in November. Incumbents Sherwin Chen and Jed Scolnick shared with The Almanac they would both be seeking reelection for another term.
