A loud hissing noise could be heard throughout the Sharon Heights Shopping Center in Menlo Park this morning, Sept. 15, and the cause wasn’t readily apparent to some shoppers.
The noise is the result of Pacific Gas and Electric workers who are conducting a controlled release of natural gas near Sand Hill Road as part of planned maintenance that began at 10 a.m.
PG&E spokesperson Stephanie Magallon said people in the area may notice a natural gas odor and the sound of equipment. The odor is not a sign of an emergency, she added.
The gas release was scheduled to end at 11 a.m.
