Sausal Creek runs under the 11.2-acre Portola Valley Town Center, but in a culvert. Should the creek run through the site instead of under it, with restored banks and natural flora and fauna?
The Town Council is seeking three residents interested in studying this question and its ramifications, including town liability issues, the viability of an aquatic habitat, and the impacts on schedules and costs in the Town Center redesign project, said Mayor Steve Toben.
Mr. Toben said he will appoint an ad hoc committee at the April 12 meeting. Along with three at-large members from the community, the Sausal Creek Advisory Committee will include members from the Town Council, the Planning Commission, the Architectural & Site Control Commission, and town committees concerned with conservation, recreation, trails, public works, open space and finance.
The committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. on five Thursdays in the Historic Schoolhouse and will be open to the public, said Mr. Toben. Meetings dates are April 20, May 18, June 15, July 20 and September 21, with a report to the council due after the last meeting.
The application deadline for an at-large position is Friday, March 31. To apply or for more information, send an e-mail message to Deputy Town Clerk Sharon Hanlon at shanlon@portolavalley.net or send a letter to Town Hall, 765 Portola Rd., Portola Valley, CA 94028.
