It may soon cost Menlo Park residents more to get their trash picked up. The City Council at its April 18 meeting will consider a 6 percent garbage rate increase for all single-family homes. If approved, the higher rate would go into effect July 1.
The city now charges residents $10.15 a month for one garbage can, $25.14 for two cans and $37.71 for three cans. Under the proposed increase, the rates would be $10.76, $26.65 and $39.97, respectively.
A recently discovered bookkeeping error revealed rate increases should have been implemented in 2005, requiring increases for the next three years, Finance Director Carol Augustine said.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at the Civic Center, between Laurel and Alma streets.
