Officer, follow that bus!

Suspected bank robber Jonathan Christensen found a drawback to public transit. He was caught recently while waiting to catch a Samtrans bus after allegedly robbing a San Carlos bank.

He’s facing charges of robbing seven banks and one ATM machine on the Peninsula, including in Menlo Park, said the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. Mr. Christiansen pleaded not guilty at an arraignment last week.

At least they’re enjoying the ride

There was only one minor glitch in the off-site parking for the Woodside Earth & Art event at Runnymede sculpture garden April 22, said Mayor Deborah Gordon. Earth & Art was one of two events using the Canada College parking lot, and some people boarded the wrong shuttle and ended up on a winery tour, she said.

It’s the end of the world as we know it

To high school administrators and parents horrified by the provocative dance floor contortions of freakin’, Short Takes offers this quote from the society pages of the Times of London in 1816:

“We remarked with pain that the indecent foreign dance called the Waltz was introduced (we believe for the first time) at the English court on Friday last. … So long as this obscene display was confined to prostitutes and adulteresses, we did not think it deserving of notice; but now that it is attempted to be forced on the respectable classes of society by the civil examples of their superiors, we feel it a duty to warn every parent against exposing his daughter to so fatal a contagion.”

So take heart, folks. It’s entirely possible that the kids will grow to be responsible adults who can look forward to being revolted by whatever dance craze is embraced by their future offspring.
