Is your family prepared for an emergency, or disastrously unprepared?
Helping Atherton residents get themselves and their neighborhoods ready for the next big quake or other disaster is the theme of the annual Atherton Civic Interest League’s meeting, set for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, in the Jennings Pavilion at Holbrook-Palmer Park.
At the meeting, a series of expert speakers are slated to talk about emergency training and planning strategies. Atherton families who attend will receive a free family survival kit worth $80 that includes food, water, blankets, a first-aid kit, a flashlight, and a radio, said ACIL president Richard Moore.
“What we love about our town will most likely work against us in the case of emergency,” says Mr. Moore. “Many of us don’t know our neighbors, may live behind gated walls, and rely on technology for everyday activities.”
The ACIL is collaborating with the Atherton Disaster Preparedness Committee and the town of Atherton with the goal of helping every Atherton family become self-sufficient for the first two to three days following a major disaster.
Holbrook-Palmer Park is located at 150 Watkins Ave. in Atherton.
