Anyone who wants a say in changes to Menlo Park’s zoning ordinance will get that chance Wednesday, May 24.

The city is hosting a workshop devoted to aligning the city’s economic, community and land-use goals through changes to zoning and land-use regulations.

The City Council previously decided that updating the city’s zoning ordinance was a priority for the 2005-06 fiscal year, but a staffing shortage delayed the project. The project is once again under way, and the Planning Commission and council are expected to consider proposed changes to the zoning ordinance this fall.

The workshop is scheduled for 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Recreation Center Ballroom at 800 Alma St.

Commissioners reappointed

Two members of Menlo Park’s Planning Commission — Henry Riggs and Melody Pagee — were reappointed unanimously by the City Council on May 10.

Ms. Pagee has already served a full four-year term, and Mr. Riggs has served on the commission since January 2005, when he filled the seat of Kelly Fergusson, who had been elected to the council.

Goats are back

To catch a glimpse of goats doing what goats do best — eat weeds — head to Sharon Hills Park off Valparaiso Avenue in Menlo Park.

Starting May 15, several hundred goats will be at different Menlo Park locations, ridding the city of weeds without the noise and pollution of mechanical equipment.

The goats are scheduled to be at Sharon Hills Park for about two weeks before moving to the undeveloped section of Sharon Park at Monte Rosa and Sharon Park drives.

Medicine drop-off

The city of Menlo Park and the Walgreens drugstore at 643 Santa Cruz Ave. are scheduled to host a safe medicine day Thursday, May 18.

People are encouraged to take unwanted or expired medicine to the Walgreens store from noon to 7 p.m. so it can be disposed of properly.

Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove some medicines from waste water, resulting in contamination of the San Francisco Bay. For more information, go to baywise.org.
