The Town Council of Portola Valley is planning a public study session at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, in the Historic Schoolhouse at 765 Portola Road to discuss methods for managing and completing the construction project that includes the building a new Town Hall, library and community hall at the Town Center.

The traditional method for a project of this size involves a single general contractor that hires and manages subcontractors such as plumbers and electricians.

The “multiple prime” alternative to be discussed at the council meeting would have the town bid separate contracts for each of the various trades and have a construction manager take an early and active role in coordinating the project.
