Oops! Major snafu
Due to an error in the printing process, some of the pages in the September 13 issue of the Almanac were out of order. The mistake occurred when printing plates were placed on the press in the wrong order. We apologize to our readers for the inconvenience. In the spirit of turning lemons into lemonade, Almanac Managing Editor Richard Hine suggests that saying the phrase, “printing plates were placed on the press,” four times fast makes for a great tongue-twister.
Saddle up, partner
Woodside’s Day of the Horse, celebrating the town’s long love affair with all things equestrian, is coming up on Saturday, October 14. But now’s the time to act for anyone who wants to participate in the event’s progressive ride along the town’s trails. Riders who sign up by September 21 get their very own Woodside trail map bandana. Organizers say those who wear it on the ride will be rewarded.Registration forms are online at Whoa94062.org. Click on “Day of the Horse.” The cost is a $30 donation. Proceeds benefit the historic Folger Stable renovation. The first 175 pre-registered riders qualify for goody bags, and the ride itself is peppered with stops offering treats to both horses and riders.
Kiwanis clubs fund new school duds
Four local Kiwanis clubs (Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Woodside Terrace A.M. and San Carlos) have teamed with nonprofit My New Red Shoes to provide 118 children with new clothing and shoes for school. Together, the clubs raised more than $5,900 for the project.“Partnering with Kiwanis was one of my best decisions this year,” says Heather Hopkins of Menlo Park, founder of My New Red Shoes.
Ms. Hopkins launched My New Red Shoes this summer, and provided 354 homeless and low-income children in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties with new outfits.
