A cyclist suffered a concussion, lacerations to his knee, and minor abrasions after being struck from behind on Alpine Road in Portola Valley by someone driving a white Honda Accord Tuesday at about 10:45 a.m.
The cyclist, 19, was heading west when he was rear-ended by the car near the site of the former John’s Valley Foods, said Sgt. Jeff Kearnan of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. He was not wearing a helmet, Sgt. Kearnan said.
A passerby told the Almanac in an e-mail that Sheriff’s Office deputies had closed Alpine Road and that the car’s windshield was “smashed.”
The cyclist was treated at the scene and taken to Stanford Hospital, police said. No one was arrested and the cause of the accident is under investigation. Deputies would not release identification information.
The District Attorney’s Office will determine whether charges are appropriate, police said.
