Four families from Portola Valley traveled to Cambodia this summer and visited orphanages and a rural school in the country, reports Carrie Sweetnam of Portola Valley.
“The stories of these children is intense and our children were very moved in meeting the kids and spending a little time with them,” Ms. Sweetnam said in an e-mail.
“We also met a special woman, a teacher who escaped the Khmer Rouge genocide to start the rural school.”
On Saturday, Aug. 25, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, the children of the Portola Valley families will operate a lemonade stand at the corner of Portola and Alpine roads to raise money for Cambodia children, Ms. Sweetnam said. They will sell drinks, granola bars and “other goodies,” she said.
