Horse racing at San Mateo’s Bay Meadows Racecourse will continue for at least one more year after the California Horse Racing Board voted Thursday to approve the track’s racing calendar for 2008.

The Bay Meadows racing season is scheduled to run from Feb. 6 through May 11, and from Aug. 6 through Aug. 18 for the San Mateo County Fair.

Meeting in Southern California Thursday, the board unanimously approved the calendar after being given assurances by Bay Meadows officials that they would do everything possible to keep horses safely stabled at the track through the end of 2008, board spokesman Mike Marten said.

The Bay Meadows property is currently targeted for demolition and redevelopment, and track officials convinced the board that horses stabled at the track after August would be able to safely train there for other races later in the year in Sacramento, Stockton, Fresno and at Golden Gate Fields in the East Bay, according to Marten.
