Incumbent Bart Spencer and challenger Peter Ohtaki were elected Tuesday to two seats on the five-member board of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, the San Mateo County Elections Office reported.
With all 66 precincts reporting, Mr. Spencer is on top with 3,280 votes. Mr. Ohtaki won the second seat with 3,007 votes. Incumbent John Osmer trailed with 1,065 votes.
The turnout was very light. In a district with 40,570 registered voters, only 4,324 ballots were cast, about 11 percent, the Elections Office reported.
Mr. Spencer was elected to a third four-year term. Mr. Osmer was seeking a second term.
The challenger, Mr. Ohtaki, has been involved with the district as a member of his neighborhood’s Community Emergency Response Team.
All three men live in Menlo Park, which, along with Atherton, East Palo Alto and nearby unincorporated areas, is served by the fire district.
