Jerk chicken, pepperpot soup, fried plantains and “duckunoo” for dessert are on the menu for chef Robert Simpson’s cooking class on Jamaican food to be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, at the cooking school at Draeger’s supermarket in downtown Menlo Park.
Chef Simpson is the owner of Back A Yard Caribbean American Grill, at 1189 Willow Road in Menlo Park, where he prepares the specialties of his native Jamaica. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Mr. Simpson cooked at the Drake Hotel and Swissotel in Chicago, and served as executive chef at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Burlingame, before opening Back A Yard.
