Linda and Dennis Ronberg of Menlo Park, owners of Linden Tree, Children’s Recordings and Books, in Los Altos, were given the 11th State Senate District’s Small Business of the Year Award by Sen. Joe Simitian at a recent luncheon sponsored by the California Small Business Association.
The Ronbergs, residents of Menlo Park since 1983, started their business in 1981 as Linden International, Children’s Record Specialists, in Tacoma, Washington. They relocated the business to Los Altos, opening a store on First Street in 1984, selling children’s music and sponsoring concerts. They moved to their present location at 170 State St. in Los Altos in 1989.
Through the years, Linden Tree has expanded to include children’s books, games, puzzles and other gifts and toys. The Ronbergs continue to sponsor author events and many concerts for children every year, some in cooperation with Music for Minors.
“Linden Tree does so much more than sell books and music,” Mr. Simitian said. “It introduces our young people to the joys of reading and art and serves as a community gathering place.”
This is the fourth consecutive year that Sen. Simitian has chosen an independent bookseller as Small Business of the Year in his district. Kepler’s Books & Magazines was a previous winner.
