A man who was shot in East Palo Alto Tuesday evening drove himself to Menlo Park before contacting police about the incident.
The East Palo Alto Police Department was called at 7:36 p.m. regarding gunshots heard in the area of Bay Road and Laurel Avenue. When officers arrived, witnesses directed them to the 900 block of Newbridge Street where they were told of a gunshot victim in Menlo Park.
Police said Pedro Souza, a Santa Clara resident, sustained a single gunshot wound to the lower back before driving himself to Menlo Park. Souza was transported to a local hospital to undergo surgery and was listed in serious condition.
Officers were able to determine that Souza was shot while driving on Newbridge Street but did not identify a suspect or motive.
