With all the ballots from the Nov. 4 presidential election counted and the results certified, elections officials announced Tuesday that San Mateo County had the highest turnout of registered voters since 1992.
A total of 78.9 percent of those registered actually voted, according to Chief Elections Officer Warren Slocum — short of the 81.1 percent that voted in 1992.
The turnout was 64.1 percent of eligible voters (basically, those of voting age), according to information obtained from the California Secretary of State’s Web site.
All told, 307,350 county residents voted — the most ever, according to elections officials. The previous high was in the 2004 presidential election when 288,533 people voted — 78.3 percent of registered voters.
