NASA climatologist James Hansen, a leading climate change analyst and critic of Bush administration science policies, is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, in the Portola Valley Community Hall at 765 Portola Road.

His topic: “Global Warming: Update from the Frontline of Science,” said town spokeswoman Brandi de Garmeaux.

Mr. Hansen directs the New York City-based Goddard Institute for Space Studies, which is studying natural and man-made changes to the environment over various time scales.

He is the second speaker in Portola Valley’s “Pioneers of Sustainability” series of talks.

Former vice president Al Gore has said of Mr. Hansen: “When the history of the climate crisis is written, Hansen will be seen as the scientist with the most powerful and consistent voice calling for intelligent action to preserve our planet’s environment.”

Carpooling and flashlights are encouraged and RSVP is appreciated. Send e-mail to Ms. Garmeaux at bdegarmeaux@portolavalley.net or call 851-1700, ext. 222.
