The Portola Valley Town Council will hold a public hearing tonight (Jan. 28) on a proposal to add a sustainability element to the town’s general plan. The meeting starts at 8 p.m. in the Historic Schoolhouse at 765 Portola Road.
While Portola Valley, and the government in particular, has a reputation for thinking about and acting on environmental issues, a separate chapter in the general plan is warranted, according to the draft document by the town’s Planning Commission.
The goals set out in the sustainability chapter include educating the community about green issues and encouraging action, including the use of efficient methods and sustainable materials in home building.
