A classic comedy set in the 1930s, “Room Service” will play at the Florence Moore Theater at Menlo School on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 30-Feb. 1) at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31. The play will be staged by the Menlo School drama department.

“Room Service” originally opened on Broadway in 1937. Shortly afterward, the Marx Brothers made it into a movie starring Ann Miller and Lucille Ball. Frank Sinatra later made a musical version of the play titled “Step Lively.”

“Room Service” follows the antics of a Broadway producer (Patrick Daly) who is scheming to bring his new play to Broadway. He runs up a huge tab to house and feed his cast and crew for seven weeks. Everything is about to come crashing down when the theater folks go into high gear to save their show.

“Every once in a while, you just have to do a big comedy. We’re having a ball putting this on,” says Beth Orr, Menlo drama teacher and director of the show.

The show stars seniors David Miracchi, Paul Schemel and Abram St. Amand Poliakoff; juniors Ben Adler, Alexis D’Alecon, Mary Lucas, Laura Torello, Nicola Vann and Walter Wuthmann; sophomores Patrick Daly, Tucker King and Michael Portman; and freshmen Zoe Hernandez and Abhi Veerina.

Tickets at $5 for students and $8 for adults are available at tickets@menloschool.org or at the door. Menlo School is located at 50 Valparaiso Ave. in Atherton.
