New changes to Portola Valley noise ordinance required the Town Council to delay a vote until June 10, the next time that all the council members will again be in town for a regularly scheduled meeting.
Some late changes to the ordinance agreed to by the council at its Wednesday, May 13, meeting:
• Include wood chippers and chain saws under the definition of gardening power-tools, and include them in regulations that govern the use of leaf blowers and weed whackers.
• Include the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. in the list of holidays during which the use of gardening power-tools is banned.
• To allow the spirited enjoyment of weddings and high school graduation parties while continuing to rein in loud garage bands, adjust the provision on amplified music to forbid any sound or noise that is “recurring and excessive.”
