Spence Petersen and Thomas Wiebe were recognized for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout at a national Eagle Scout Court of Honor Sept. 13 in Menlo Park.

Spence Petersen, a senior at Menlo-Atherton High School, has earned 31 merit badges. For his Eagle Scout leadership project, he led an effort to improve the trails at Edgewood Park that entailed grading and resurfacing four miles of worn trails to mitigate erosion. The project came in on time and under budget.

Thomas Wiebe, a senior at Palo Alto Prep High School, has earned 31 merit badges. He led an Eagle Scout project to expand an organic garden at the Charles Armstrong School in Belmont. The project involved installation of a new stairway and adding drought-resistant plants. The project took 287 hours.

The boys are members of Troop 222, which has been sponsored by the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church since 1953. The troop includes 44 boys, ages 11 to 17. Craig Falkenhagen is scoutmaster.
