Chandler Wickers and fellow sophomore Amanda MacFarland each scored a pair of goals as the Menlo School girls’ soccer team defeated visiting Mercy-Burlingame, 6-0, and earned no worse than a co-championship in the West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) on Thursday.

The first-place Knights (10-1, 12-4-2) can win the title outright if Priory ties or loses to King’s Academy on Saturday. If the Panthers win, Menlo can win its first league soccer title in 20 years with a tie against third-place Sacred Heart Prep on Tuesday on the Knights’ field at 2:45 p.m.

Wickers started things up with a goal off a rebound from senior Elyse Adler’s shot at five minutes into the game. McFarland coverted in the 13th minute off a corner kick from Wickers. Sophomore Jaye Boissiere scored with two minutes left in the half with a shot 35 yards out over the goalkeeper.

Just like the first half, Menlo scored in the first five minutes with McFarland’s beautiful goal on the assist from senior Elle Laub. Senior Alex Tom then fed a nice pass through the Crusaders’ defense to Wickers in the sixth minute for an easy one-on-one goal. The Knights finished the game with a powerful shot from senior defender Shannon Lacy from 23 yards away, assisted by junior Julia Dressel.

The Menlo defense performed solidly with Lacy, freshman Alexandra Walker, senior Sophia King, Junior Hannah Rubin, and sophomore Sienna Stritter. The goalies, Dressel and junior Priya Medberry, chalked up another blank sheet — Menlo’s eighth consecutive shutout in league play.

In Palo Alto, Sacred Heart Prep got first-half goals from Kendall Jager, Ali Jordan and Alex Bourdillion and maintained its hold on third place with a 4-1 victory over Castilleja at the Mayfield Soccer Complex on Thursday. SHP (8-2-1, 10-4-5) damaged Castilleja’s hopes of finishing fourth and earning a playoff berth against the WBAL Skyline Division champ for the league’s fourth CCS berth.

In the WBAL Skyline Division, Danielle Man scored twice and freshman Nicole Colonna scored once and added two assists to pace Pinewood to a 3-0 victory over host Mercy-San Francisco on Thursday.

The Panthers, who scored all their goals in the first 11 minutes of the match, continued their standout season while improving to 13-1-1 in league (14-3-2 overall). Pinewood will close out the year by hosting ICA on Saturday at 11 a.m. Despite its fine record, Pinewood will finish second in the division and miss a playoff with the fourth-place team from the Foothill Division.

In the PAL Bay Division, Menlo-Atherton remained in third place following a 2-1 loss to visiting Carlmont on Thursday. The Bears (6-3-3, 10-5-3) still have 21 points while the Scots (8-1-3, 11-3-5) strengthened their hold on second place with 27 points behind division leader Aragon (9-1-2, 11-2-5), which has 29. Meryssa Thompson tallied M-A’s goal in the second half off an assist from Jen Kirst.
