Sacred Heart Prep senior Danni Struck of Portola Valley will have some interesting stories to tell when she returns to school in the next month.

She just won a gold medal in the quadruple sculling (four-person boat) and a bronze in the single at the Canammex International Regatta held at Lake Xochimilco, site of 1968 Mexico City Olympics.

Struck was representing US Rowing in the annual event that brings together athletes from Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The Americans edged the Canadians in the quad for gold and Struck took a bronze as Canadian rowers prevailed in the single scull event.

Struck also raised the American flag at the opening ceremonies on the second day of competition.

Struck will go on to represent the USA as a member of the US Junior National Team at the Under-18 World Rowing Championships held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria on Aug. 15-19. She’s an alternate on the team, which features eight of the nationals’ best female scullers.

She was selected to represent the USA based on her performance at the month-long, invitation-only sculling selection camp conducted by USA rowing in New Milford, Conn., earlier this month.
