Customers shopping at the Tri-E-Z in Menlo Park got more than they bargained for Friday night after two men, one armed with a handgun, robbed both store and shoppers.
Police responded to a 911 call about an armed robbery around 7:35 p.m. on Dec. 28. According to the report, the men demanded that a store employee empty the cash register, and accosted the two customers. No one was physically injured.
Witnesses described one suspect as a thin black man approximately 18 to 25 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, black mask, black gloves, gray watch cap, and blue pants, and carrying a handgun.
They described the other suspect also as a thin black man about the same height, 22 to 25 years old, wearing a black jacket, black watch cap, black gloves and blue pants.
Escaping with an undisclosed amount of stolen money and property, the duo fled on foot, running south on El Camino Real. An extensive search by Menlo Park and Atherton police found only a cold trail.
The store, located at 1820 El Camino Real, was also robbed in 2007, 2011, and July 2012.

Well looks like the Almanac went strictly by the police report. Check a little more and you’d know that these are the same two guys who previously robbed the store, even taking the exact same liquor as last time.
BTW saying customers “got more than they bargained for” is a bit flippant when “reporting” on a very dangerous situation which luckily didn’t turn deadly.
Do they have video cameras? Did the customers or clerk get a good look at the 2nd suspects face?
Customers with concealed carry permits could have held the two robbers until police arrived.
Funny, I never see cops arguing for vigilantes with carry permits getting into a shoot out with perceived criminals.
A bunch of George Zimmermans walking around, ignoring a police dispatcher’s order to stay in his car…. what could go wrong? Maybe……..
Concealed carry #1 walks into Tri EZ, sees a man holding a gun on the guy behind the counter, shoots him, then finds out the customer he shot was also a conceal carry (call him #2) who was holding the gun on the criminal behind the counter emptying the register. The criminal then shoots conceal carry #1, who already shot conceal carry #2 for the criminal, and then the criminal grabs all the extra guns on the way out.
yeah, that’s a win-win for every one.

Not to worry, you have it right. If you couldn’t distinguish the proprietor from the perpetrator you shouldn’t have a gun. If you get one, keep the bullet in your shirt pocket so you don’t accidentally shoot yourself in all the confusion, Barney.

The comfort with which criminals rob citizens changes quickly when the odds aren’t in their favor. Interesting how my post above included undercover trained police officers, yet one poster took it into unrealistic fantasy. While I respect anothers First Amendment rights of all free speech, it should be used responsibly. I don’t insult nor group responsible gun owners with the irresponsible nor the incompetent. Yet we allow some to join a conversation no matter how little realistic experience they display.
Most criminals have little skills and thus are simply opportunistic thugs. They rob because they have failed at most things in their life, such as study, commitment or simple responsibility. The more criminals are successful in robbing the unarmed, they do graduate to something, to more serious crimes.

That’s a lot different than trained, background checked, responsible, professional, union police officers.

It is amusing to observe those attepting to speak about what the intentions of the founders and forefathers were. Citing selective parts of a document or even sound bites from the media isn’t exactly speaking intelligently no matter how much excessive punctuation is included. Most of the obtuse are confused by facts: 64 million other gun owners didn’t abuse their responsibilities yesterday;
most thugs on video taped robberies are wearing “hoodies”; TRI-EZ market sells groceries not just liquor and robbers have already made the decision to take a life if necessary. Many post rants of emotionally charged far fetched fantasy but offer no positive concrete solutions.
