Police have identified the woman who was found stabbed to death in an East Palo Alto apartment as 47-year-old Philomena Ashford-Anderson, according to East Palo Alto police.
She is listed online as a substance and drug abuse counselor in Redwood City.
Police have booked Richard Slaughter, who they believe was in a dating relationship with her, on suspicion of murder.
He was arrested on 9:31 p.m. Monday in Redwood City for driving under the influence and a minor traffic collision, police said. After being treated at a local hospital, he was booked at the San Mateo County jail at around 3:30 a.m.
Police said that shortly thereafter Mr. Slaughter provided them with information that led them to an apartment on 45 Newell Road in East Palo Alto.
They found Ms. Ashford-Anderson dead inside, with multiple stab wounds to her upper torso, police said.
Police said that Mr. Slaughter and Ms. Ashford Anderson may have been residing together.
