The Mindego Gateway of the Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve officially opens a new parking area, overlook and other visitor-oriented facilities with a ceremony from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 7. The ceremony takes place at a parking area off Alpine Road on the western side of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The new facilities include a 20-vehicle parking area, a restroom, a bike rack, interpretative signs, viewing platforms and wheelchair access, according to a statement from the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space Preserve. The ceremony will include a recognition of the achievements of Audrey C. Rust, past president of the Peninsula Open Space Trust.
The Mindego area of the Russian Ridge preserve includes the 1,047-acre Mindego Ranch and Mindego Hill, a natural landmark. Sharing the funding for the facility improvements were POST, the California Coastal Conservancy and the open space district.
