A Menlo Park man who pleaded no contest in June to charges of robbery, attempted robbery and robbery with a firearm was sentenced to 12 years in state prison on Oct. 26.

During three incidents between Oct. 25 and Oct. 28, 2017, Scott Whitney Davis, 51, demanded prescription drugs at two Menlo Park pharmacies and threatened employees there with violence, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.

On Oct. 25, 2017, he entered the Walgreens on Santa Cruz Avenue wearing a mask and gave the pharmacist a note demanding Xanax, Valium and Oxycontin. The note indicated he would shoot the pharmacist if she didn’t give him the medication. A co-worker called 911 and Davis fled, prosecutors said.

Around 9 a.m. the next day, Davis went to the CVS on El Camino Real and asked for two bottles of Xanax, and when the pharmacist asked for a prescription, he lifted his shorts to show a handgun, prosecutors said. Davis then grabbed the bottles and fled the store while police were called.

Two days later, Davis went back to CVS wearing the mask, and the pharmacist, who recognized him, called 911. Davis stole Oxycontin and fled on a bike; he was arrested by the Menlo Park Police Department a short time later. Police staked out the pharmacies, according to Police Chief Dave Bertini.

Prosecutors said that Davis addressed the court during his sentencing hearing and apologized for his crimes.

Davis will receive 418 days’ credit for time already served. He will have to pay $492 in restitution fees, prosecutors said.
