Caltrain officials announced they will be suspending services between San Francisco and Millbrae Stations on multiple weekends this month.
The commuter rail line’s trips will be suspended starting the weekend of Aug. 12-13, and continuing on Aug. 19-20 and 26-27 for its electrification project, officials said in a news release Tuesday, Aug. 8.
“Crews will install and test the signal system in San Francisco and continue to erect poles and hang wires for the overhead catenary system (OCS),” the news release said.
Commuters were encouraged to look for alternative transportation. Bus bridge service will be available to Caltrain-dependent riders, but passengers should expect delays and longer travel times, according to Caltrain spokesman Dan Lieberman.
Under the rail line’s project, diesel trains and their infrastructure components will be transitioned to an electrified system, Lieberman said in the news release.
“The new trains will feature onboard displays with digital trip information, increased storage capacities, baby-changing tables, Wi-Fi and power outlets at every seat,” he said, adding the project also aims to meet climate action goals.
Caltrain expects to launch passenger service under the electrified system in fall of 2024, according to Lieberman.
