Meet bats at Belle Haven Library, July 14

Join bat rescue and public education organization NorCalBats at the Belle Haven Library on Sunday, July 14, from 11-11:45 a.m., for an educational bat event. The Belle Haven Library is located at 100 Terminal Ave. in Menlo Park. 

At this free community event, attendees will learn about the role of bats in our local environment, discuss harmful myths about bats and meet real live bats. All of the bat animal ambassadors from NorCalBats are rescued, non-releasable bats that cannot survive in the wild. 

Join the third Menlo Park Monster Truck Kid Jam, July 21

After hosting two successful mini monster truck kid jams at the Burgess Skate Park, Menlo Park resident Jared Carlson will be hosting more events throughout the summer. During these monster truck kid jams, the skate park is reserved for kids to play with their mini monster trucks and mini cars on the skate ramps. 

“I have coordinated with the park and we are planning on the third Sunday of every month to hold the event,” Carlson said in an email to this news organization. 

The next Menlo Park Monster Truck Kid Jam will be held on Sunday, July 21, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Burgess Skate Park, which is located at 600 Alma Street. 

San Mateo County Parks seeking input on playground concepts for Flood Park

As part of its Flood Park redesign project, San Mateo County Parks is seeking community feedback on three proposed playground designs for the park. The survey on the three playground designs is available in both English and Spanish on the San Mateo County Parks website: smcgov.org/parks/realize-flood-park.

The survey closes on Sunday, July 14. 

The three proposed designs are based on past community input that the parks department received from community events and a community survey.

Coffee with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, July 25

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is hosting “Coffee With A Cop” on Thursday, July 25, from 8-11 a.m. at Buck’s Restaurant in Woodside, 3062 Woodside Road. The community is invited to gather in conversations with deputies.

MPCSD seeks community feedback

The Menlo Park City School District is seeking community feedback through its annual Community Survey to gather input on the district. The school district asks for MPCSD residents and taxpayers to fill out the survey regardless of having children enrolled in MPCSD schools including Encinal School, Laurel Elementary School, Oak Knoll Elementary School, and Hillview Middle School.

The survey is available online at mpcsd.org under “What’s Happening” and is available in English and Spanish. Community members can access the survey until July 31. 

Portola Valley Concert Series kicks off, July 18

On July 18, the Portola Valley Cultural Arts Committee will be hosting the first concert of their three-part concert series that will take place on Thursdays after the farmers market from 5:30-8 p.m. at Town Center, 765 Portola Road. 

The first concert will feature Fog City Swampers, a classic rock cover band based in Northern California. On August 8, Freddy Clarke & Wobbly World will perform jazz, afro-cuban, funk, world music bringing together internationally recognized musicians. The final concert will be held on Sept. 5 with a performance by Bundy Browne & Guitar Gypsy, Portola Valley musicians who will play bluesy originals and covers influenced by Americana and R&B.
