Just two days after a bicyclist was killed in Woodside, another cyclist was injured Sunday afternoon when a motorist hit him at Canada and Edgewood roads near Filoli.

The crash happened just before noon on Aug. 31, according to law enforcement dispatches. The man was placed on a stretcher, though the severity of his injuries was not immediately clear. The Pulse has reached out to the California Highway Patrol for comment, as it is the agency that has jurisdiction over the case.

Friday’s fatal crash occurred at the intersection of highways 35 and 84 — often called “four corners” — in Woodside, where a bicyclist was struck by a pickup truck. The cyclist was airlifted to Stanford Medical Center in critical condition and later died Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office.

“This is a heartbreaking reminder that every life on our roads is precious. We must all share the road with vigilance, respect, and care – for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers alike,” Sheriff Christina Corpus said in a statement.

The Sheriff’s Office said its Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the Woodside crash and that the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating.

Anyone with information about Friday’s incident can call the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office at 650-363-4911.

  1. I am troubled by this. The county and state has done very little to enforce the basic bicycle safety laws or provide infrastructure for bicyclist safety. Another bicyclist life was taken too soon, not very far from this incident what could have been done to prevent this?

California has an extensive (and growing) highway system for cars. It’s time to create systems of connected, protected networks to allow people on bikes to swiftly and safely reach popular destinations.
