Editor’s note: The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner identified the victim on Aug. 21 as Christopher Joel Jones, 59, of Palo Alto.
A man was killed Sunday night after he crashed his car on Oregon Expressway, at the Alma Street underpass, Palo Alto police said in a news release.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was reportedly driving on Oregon shortly before midnight when he crashed his sedan into the walls of the underpass, according to the police. Officers responded to the scene and found him unconscious in the sedan. He was extricated from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the police.
Police said the man was driving westbound on Oregon when he hit the underpass wall. It was unknown as of Monday afternoon whether drugs or alcohol were involved, police said. They do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the collision.
Police had closed the road for about six hours on Sunday night and Monday morning as they investigated the scene, according to the news release.
The victim’s identity was not available as of Monday afternoon, according to the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner.
