I’ve been documenting my life in photos since the heyday of disposable cameras when I was growing up. My first cellphone was in the pre-iPhone days, so the ability to take such crisp photos with a phone that fits in my pocket is still somewhat of a novelty to me. (Why yes, I am a “peak millennial.”) As of right now I have 24,441 photos on my phone documenting moments in my life big and small (and my cat, always my cat), along with thousands of other photos on my computer taken with cameras I’ve had over the years. I love how a photo can take me back to the day I snapped it, conjuring up memories I hadn’t thought of in years.

Whether you consider yourself an amateur photographer or a professional, The Six Fifty Peninsula Photo Contest is for you. Now through April 14, adults and youth who live, work or attend school in the 650 can each submit up to 10 original photos in six categories: abstract, landscapes, moments, portraits, travel and wildlife. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category – $200 per adult division category, $100 for each youth category and $500 for best in show – and winners will have their works exhibited at the Palo Alto Art Center. For complete rules and to learn how to submit your photos, check out the story below.
